{"id":19,"date":"2013-04-25T02:16:00","date_gmt":"2013-04-25T07:16:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2021-03-26T09:45:16","modified_gmt":"2021-03-26T14:45:16","slug":"310-to-yuma-opening-and-closing-images","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/k-tock.com\/?p=19","title":{"rendered":"3:10 to Yuma: Opening and Closing Images"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s been a while since I&#8217;ve looked at a specifically <em>Save the Cat<\/em> beat&#8211; I still like Blake&#8217;s theories, but I prefer to have them percolating in my mind along with other theories, as opposed to slavishly following a formula.<\/p>\n<p>Reading 3:10 To Yuma, though, did provide a neat example of the <strong>Opening Image<\/strong> being referenced in the&nbsp;<strong>Closing Image<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Early in the <em>Contention<\/em> draft&nbsp;(2004) the outlaw Ben Wade utilises a cattle stampede to achieve his goal of robbing a heavily-armed stagecoach.<\/p>\n<p>A&nbsp;cattle stampede is utilised again at the&nbsp;end&#8211; a nice call-back to the opening.<\/p>\n<p>There was another strong image at the beginning that I thought was going to be called-back in the closing scenes. On page 11 one of Wade&#8217;s gang members, Campos, is captured and used as a human shield.
