Breaking the Chain

My wife and I were expecting our first child towards the end of May, so I was expecting things to get busier. But I made a commitment not to Break the Chain— something I blogged about earlier.

Unfortunately, things did not work out as we had intended.

My son, Kaelen Grant McClintock, was stillborn on June 1, 2013.

Stillborn.

Not a word I thought would have such an impact in my life.

Needless to say, I’ve broken the chain.

I still want to write. And I have managed to write a little since it happened. Some writing of screenplays, but mainly memories of the nine-month journey we had with our son. So still. So peaceful.

Somehow the sun rises each morning; second still follows second, but life is numb. Sometimes things are fine, sometimes the smallest thing sets off the tears.

It’s hard to believe a little life can leave such a big impact.

Anyway, my writing is now coloured by grief– And I have new stories to tell in honour of my son.

I love you, Kaelen. We will see you again.
