Listen Up

The fifty-second episode of Scriptnotes was released this week. That’s right – a year’s supply.

At the end of it, John August recommended some of his favourite podcasts.
I thought I’d give a brief rundown on three of the podcasts I listen to (to which I listen – if we want to be grammatically correct).
Scriptnotes is a podcast about screenwriting and things that are interesting to screenwriters. It is moderated by John August and Craig Mazin, two professional, successful screenwriters.
It is released weekly, usually a Wednesday for me here in Australia.
It is entertaining, insightful, and provides a great perspective on the inner workings of the film industry.
On The Page is a podcast that answers all your questions on the business and craft of screenwriting. It is run by Pilar Alessandra, a script consultant and screenwriting teacher.
Although it has been around for four years, I’ve only just discovered it. Most of the episodes are available for free, but there are a few that cost.
The On The Page podcast features a variety of guest podcasters, who provide in-depth discussion on many different areas of screenwriting, and filmmaking in general.
Every week, host Jeff Goldsmith provides interviews and behind the scenes peeks at films and the filmmaking process.
He often interviews key creatives behind classic and recent films.
There are also a variety of Q&A sessions hosted at other events, which Jeff provides on the site.
In Conclusion
It is important not to let listening to informative podcasts get in the way of writing, but listening to them while driving, walking, or working out is a great use of time.
There is lots to be learnt by heeding the advice of experienced practitioners of the craft.
What are some of your favourite podcasts on filmmaking?
