As a reward to myself for submitting my synopsis to the Marza Story Circus Competition, I ordered some screenwriting books off Amazon a couple of weeks ago. Well, they arrived today! I ordered Dr Stan D Williams’ The Moral Premise and John Truby’s The Anatomy of Story.
I have seen a little bit about The Moral Premise on Dr Williams’ blog, and it seems to be a very close fit to Blake’s structure in Save the Cat! After I’ve read it, I’ll let you know what I think, and also compare the structure of the two methods.
I am less familiar with Truby’s concepts, but I’ve read some of his articles on the ‘Net and what he espouses seems good. I’m hoping that these two new books will confirm Blake’s structure, but also add information and useful tips to sections that Blake didn’t focus on, so that the insight from all three is useful and leads to super-effective story construction.
